MALLY – FUTURE’S CLASSIC
2 February 2012
The name MaLLy might be familiar to you; last time we saw the Minneapolis rapper, he was spitting fire next to Atmosphere’s Slug, Kill the Vultures and Big Quarters on ‘Somebody, MN’. MaLLy has just dropped a new track called ‘Future’s Classic’ – a no-holds-barred banger that brings to mind the incendiary wordplay of Guilty Simpson and Sean Price. Have a listen after the jump, what do you think? Best keep an eye on this one.
EVIDENCE RELEASES VIDEO FOR FALLING DOWN
25 January 2012
Dilated Peoples rapper Evidence is back to release the new video for ‘Falling Down’ – from his latest long player ‘Cats & Dogs’, released on the mighty Rhymesayers label last year.
The stark black and white video was directed by Todd Angkasuwan – a killer video for what is without a doubt one of the strongest tracks on the album (peep our review here). Take a look after the jump. Keep your eyeballs peeled for the new Dilated Peoples album – ‘Directors of Photography’ – to be dropped this year sometime (release date still to be confirmed)!
NIKE UNLEASHES THE FUELBAND
23 January 2012
Nike announced its newest piece of equipment at an event last Thursday hosted by Jimmy Fallon: the Nike+ FuelBand. Featuring a sleek, black band busting out with futuristic LED lights, the FuelBand effectively levels the playing field when it comes to tracking your sporting (or everyday) activity. Rather than track your standard pace, distance, time and calories, what Nike has done here is potentially change the data tracking and quantified self game. Again. What the FuelBand measures is no coup. The star here is the introduction of NikeFuel – a new, universal unit of measurement that now means that regardless of what sport or activity you do, you can now compare your statistics with every other person out there using the FuelBand. Are you a runner? You can now compete and compare with a UFC fighter. Or a b-boy. Or a snooker player.
STEVE MORE LAUNCHES INTERFACE
5 December 2011
Interface is the name of an online exhibition featuring 18 new works from artist Steve More. It’s Steve’s first solo show following the success of his collaborative exhibition ‘A’, alongside fellow Agent of Change member Remi/Rough, which Brainer was privileged to go behind the scenes earlier this year. Bold and unique in the presentation and environment of his show, Steve opts to swap the traditional gallery space for the unusual setting of a condemned World War II building, accessed from the comfort of viewer’s very own desktop. A move which not only highlights Steve’s new body of work but simultaneously allows the setting to become an integral part of the ‘Interface’ experience acting as a virtual installation to be explored and studied as you would the pieces of art.

IN PICTURES: FLYING LOTUS + ANTIVJ AT THE ROUNDHOUSE
28 October 2011
If you haven’t caught a Kutmah set before, be aware that before his unprovoked and unfortunate deportation, he was widely regarded as a pillar in the L.A. scene. The only way to understand how, is to make the most of the opportunity of having him now living and playing with us in the U.K and Europe. Following the grand feat of keeping the vast Roundhouse warm, Martyn also brought a wealth of experience and variety of flavours from his new album, leaving the air positively tense as the crowd only had to wait a little longer for Steve ‘Flying Lotus’ Ellison to take the stage.
