SECRET WARS EURO LEAGUE.

This Friday kick starts the first leg of the Secret Wars Euro League, as London take on Amsterdam in an all out battle of creative expression, artistic dexterity and crowd pleasing visual flare.
For those of you not already in the know about this vastly popular event, Secret Wars is a live art battle in which artists compete against one another over a 90-minute period. Using black paint and markers only on white walls, with no reference sketches or pencilled outlines, the artists' creative freestyles are judged on a 3 point system – 2 guest judges and a crowd vote, recorded using a decibel reader.
Spawned in March 2006 as a mere showcase for artists to reveal to the public what they could do, Secret Wars has rapidly evolved into a global, cultural movement. The last 4 years have seen the event focus on individual artist battles - this year however, in a bid to have live art encompassed as a recognised sport and move the event forward, the creators have opted to promote the team battle for the 2010 competition.
"When we started Secret Wars 3 years ago, it was influenced heavily by various things from the Marvel comic, to Warriors and Fight Club. After experiencing the team battles around the world and seeing the benefits of this compared to the singles battles, we decided on trying it as a complete 6-8 month series!"
"I have noticed the crowds are more vocal and patriotic towards team battles - there seems to be more at stake and I love watching the artists free-styling alongside each other.... You never know what will come out the other end!"
- Terry Guy (Founder of Monorex and Secret Wars)

Insanely excited about Friday's battle I will be counting down the next few days with fervent anticipation. The entire Secret Wars concept is an inspiring revelation. Coming from a creative background myself I understand and wholeheartedly embrace the spirit of competition - if I’m not competing with myself to out do my last piece of work, I’m competing with a slew of other creatives for job opportunities. This underlying notion of competition is apparent in every creative individual out there, and to have an event such as Secret Wars create a platform where friendly competition can be expressed, enjoyed and inspire a crowd of creatives and non-creatives alike is a powerful testament to the event's burgeoning success.
Make sure you come down to see London’s first battle against Amsterdam at The Bookclub, 100 Leonard St, EC2A 4RH this Friday.
Believe me this is an event NOT to be missed.

Here's a preview of what you can expect to see on Friday - taken from last year's battle between London and Dublin.
