BRAINER MIX SERIES VOL. 1: TA-KU

Oh yes. The Brainer mix series is here. We’ve been meaning to get our own curated series of mixes underway for a little while now, and I’m happy to say we’re finally ready to unleash our first volume – courtesy of Australian wunderkind Ta-ku (who’s infectious track ‘Hey Kids’ kicks off Brownswood Recordings’ new compilation ‘Brownswood Electr*c 2′ – out on Monday).

An accomplished producer and graduate of 2008′s Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona, Ta-ku’s musical creations are proof that the man is a chameleon. Salacious slow jams, gritty electronic synths laid over 10-on-the-Richter-scale beats, frenetic funk numbers that swing like Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn – the half Philippino, half Maori beat maker can do it all. You’ll get hits of Dilla, Prefuse 73, the Neptunes and more, all rolled into that signature Ta-ku swagger.

So, listen to and download the inaugural mix of our series below and keep an eye out for future volumes, where you can expect an eclectic blend of the freshest musical talent out there, from both new and established artists.

While you’re at it, be sure to check our interview with Ta-ku where he talks about the mix and the inspiration behind it.
