LONDON DRAWS TO MUSIC WITH KID KOALA
Baked goods, quiet music and creativity galore hits Red Gallery in East London
Last night saw all round nice guy Kid Koala bring his Music To Draw To event to London for the first time. Conceived as a result of the bleak, harsh winters endured in Koala’s hometown of Montreal (where everyone rapidly retreats into their homes only to emerge bleary-eyed 3 months later), the regular evenings encourage people to come out with friends, meet new people, and work on whatever creative projects they’ve got going on. Oh, and eat cake.
London jumped at the chance and descended on Red Gallery to get their doodle on! People were sitting on the floor, perching on the edge of benches, crowded around tables – but everyone had pen, pencil and paper to hand, and I spent a good while wandering around and spying on the awesome artwork going on.
Good vibe, great people, amazing music (and a nice preview of forthcoming music from Koala’s ’12 Bit Blues’ album coming soon). I made some good progress on an article I’m working on, to boot. We need more events like this in London.
Oh boy. Baked goods.
Performing his legendary Moon River routine and previewing ’3 Bit Blues’ from the forthcoming album ’12 Bit Blues’.
So Leo not only writes for us, but happens to be an insanely talented fine artist. Check out his blog and give him props.
Ben’s slacking.
Ellie was the only person who brought something other than drawing to get on with (I think). She crocheted like a maniac.
Enough said.
Kid Koala’s new graphic novel Space Cadet is out next week, and he’ll be back on our shores to play a special headphone show at Village Underground in November. To keep up to date, be sure to head over to kidkoala.com.
