B Bravo
Emerging in 2010, London label Earnest Endeavours has been on the block for about a year now, and the crew has primarily been amping up the city’s cultural offerings with a series of events featuring heavyweight musicians and artists. From jetting to Spain to rock Barcelona stupid with LuckyMe and Desparrame, to hosting a night of mouthwatering street food and beats with Dante Fried Chicken, the chaps have certainly made their mark.
The inaugural release on the label is what it’s all led up to though, and EE001 has finally arrived in the form of up-and-comer B Bravo’s delectable slab of get-down funk. With two EPs already under his belt for San Francisco’s Frite Nite, ‘Kiss ‘n’ Tell’ is a highly welcome proposition given the influx of brooding, ambient music dominating our musical consciousness at the moment. Whilst the exploration of the post-dubstep sound is bringing some of the most exciting music to hit our earholes right now, sometimes you just want to put something on and, well, bug out to it.
Oozing with sex and swagger in equal measure, Bravo (real name Adam Mori) has crafted a 5 track EP busting out with textured synthesizers and deep, rolling basslines. This is straight up summer music from the RBMA ’10 graduate; ‘Right On Time’ featuring Chicago trio The Gent$ will have you dreaming of long, hazy summer evenings stretching to infinity with its salacious bounce, and ‘Swang’ – one for the poppers out there – doffs its fedora to the west coast with its infectious g-funk stylings and vocoder flourishes.
‘Kiss ‘n’ Tell’ is an intensely warm and colorful first release for Earnest Endeavours. Bristling with charisma, soul, and a groove that’s rare to find these days, it’s a record that should firmly cement the Bay Area producer as a key torchbearer for modern funk. You can bet your ass Dâm-Funk is rocking out on his keytar in approval right now.
